Events/Festivals

The Plaza

Home of the famous “Drum Church” that draws crowds of 100-300 on Sunday afternoons, it features 10-15 African drummers in a circle, dancers; sidewalks and the plaza filled with hats, jewelry, art vendors, children playing and a stage.

The Festivals

At least 7 huge festivals are held annually with something going on most every weekend: Kwanzaa Parade & Festival; Juneteenth Festival; Marcus Garvey Day Festival; Haitian Celebration Day; the Belizean Festival; Labor Day Weekend Jazz Festival; Festival of the Masks; and, al fresco dining, vendors, food trucks…. Whew!!

On every block there is usually some nighttime entertainment, book signing, lecture, martial arts demonstration, classes, plays and so on.

The Theatre

A $31M renovation of the historic, breathtakingly beautiful art deco 750-seat Vision Theatre has re-opened as a venue for major productions, plays and concerts.

It's a mutual benefit association; member-owned, similar to fraternities & credit unions. The goal is only 100,000 members by December 30, 2026. Come together and let us build a nationality-identified, land-based economic and educational zone–just as 16 other identity-based groups have done. Land is the foundation of Economic, Political and Social Power. Land control (naming, it’s a 99-yr lease) is permanence for our people.

DUES: $5 a month for A family of four – Free enrollment through October 28, 2026

    $1 for organizations and individuals who sign up a minimum of 100 enrollees
    80 cents for Reserves
    20 cents for Management and Recordkeeping
